From 8am to 9am every day this week there has been a speaker discussing different aspects of health and safety to 250 people from the whole company - todays speaker discussed respiritory systems, as part of his discussion he talked about smoking, he advised that smoking was neither good for you or bad for you ... infact its up to you to decide for yourself, I thought hmmm I am not sure about this one I will talk to the first aiders about this in the class.
we talked about the dangers of smoking, some agreed that smoking is bad for you but if you smoke it is your choice and you still get cancer anyway if you dont smoke. A gentleman asked me about breast cancer, he said that in Nigeria they can predict it coming by the fact that the baby refuses to take milk and that the nipple is unusual with sores, the medics tend to take a certain type of leaf and mix if with water and kind of whip the nipple (gently) he told me that you can physically see the cancer leave the body like ants. I explained that this is not something that
we would do in the UK, if we suspected cancer we would run tests and have the cancer removed with surgery. then another gentleman said "and with convulsions if you urinate in their mouth it will cure their condition!" I think the shock on my face told what I thought as they all laughed at me... I said (they all know about my Epilepsy) "if I have a siezure dont you dare pee in my mouth!!!" to which they all giggled and then I showed them some pictures sent from Mike of a young girl who fell from a height in Kenya and had her legs ripped off .... nice! thanks Mike
Today I was taken out for lunch again this time by the team, they all clubbed together to take me out to lunch, I feel so touched by their generosity, they are so kind and we had a lovely time. But the music at the venue was a little surprising - even to them, such as the dont stop moving baby all your doing is driving me crazy song - if you know it you the bad words in it! Victor then said to me " OH
my god that is so big" confused I looked down and said "WHAT???" concerned he replied " your stomach" I laughed and said "Thanks Victor but promise me this, when you come to the UK dont say that to another woman, its likely you will get slapped" 😊
The team wanted to see a picture of my family which I showed them, it seems my brother Michael is very popular with both the men and the women in Africa, they believe that he should have a different woman every night of the week and maybe even be a model! One guy was talking in detail about how he could be a part time model and still do his full time job at the same time. Clair also has a few admirers too... especially now they know her occupation... They all thought Joe was handsome too 😊
At the end of class today I chatted to Marknor, a very intelligent lad, he wants to change the worlds opinion of Nigeria, make Nigeria an educated country and send the world a message that Nigeria is a good country but the governments corruption causes so much chaos it is hard. I really admire his passion and I hope he does not give up on his dreams, the world needs more people with his passion for dreams.
Jane and I are off out for dinner again, I hope the plane will be able to carry me home tommorow ...
all the best
love
Lisa
