I ended up at a Moroccan wedding on Monday! I was walking home when a homegrown band of drummers and horn players can parading down the alley. It turns out they were my neighbors and they were happy to pull me and my companion into the fray. Inside their house we did some square dancing while the drummers banged away on baking tins, frying pans and even some real drums. The whole time I was sort of smothered with young children who were more than happy to lead me around the room by the hands (often with several children per hand) and sit on my lap and just sort of grab on to me however possible. I don't think I ever actually met the zwoj and zwoja but I'm pretty sure I met every single member of their immediate and extended family.
In other news, Arabic is coming along well. I've finally learned enough grammar to string a few select sentances together. I'm going to spend most of December here in Fez with a private tutor just practicing speech and cementing in my head that which I've already learned. I was going to go to the Sahara, but the desert, at this time of year, only gets of about 4 hours of warmth a day, so I'm going to wait. I'd thought about flying to Mali too, but it was too expensive so instead I'll just spend a week in the Jebel Sarho doing some trekking, than I'll come back to Fez to study and shop. I miss everyone!
B'Salaama,
Brad
