a bad picture of a hippothere were many to see on the ride along the Niger River. and many oppritunities to take better pictures but i never got around to it.
So I took a boat to Timbuktu.
Not alot happened!
We got into the boat fought for our places, almost won a very large section and then lost half of it but only because we decided being jerks to a nice Spanish couple wasnt the best way to start a 3 day boat trip. Good decision, they ended up being really nice people.
There were also 3 Catalonians and a hand full of French people AND lots of locals. Look at the picture; we looked like that.
Saw lots of hippos and birds as well as numerous villages of wide varieties.
Went swimming when the boat stopped one day.
Slept on the roof both nights. The first night was really really cold and the second night was quite warm (still trying to understand going North means hotter weather). Played guitar sand talked and read.
Arrived in Timbuktu and went from the port to the city with no problem. It is a big market town with not much to do.
Today I traded my fake North Face backpack from Vietnam for a big Toureg Knife and a small souvenier. Gave away my Canada hat that I never wore
to a kid who gave a smile and suprised look worth a million dollars. Bought my ticket back to the south and in general have been relaxing. It isnt as hot here as it is in Atar but nonetheless it is still about 43 degrees and that is hot (Atar was 48 degrees one day).
Decided not to go into the desert due to the price.
Maybe in 2 or 3 days I will be entering Burkina Faso.
Hello and goodbye from Timbuktu!
Super MacroI like this picture; very hot during the day so you play with honey and ants and a camera
