Delivery #1
Cabbage, kale, carrots and potatoes from our garden were delivered to two orphanages and one school. As we ended one year and began a new one I started planning for all the new beginnings that are and will be happening. Our harvest has begun in our garden, giving us plenty of cabbage, carrots, corn, potatoes, kale, spinach and beans that we are able to happily donate to the orphanages.
Even though the cabbage is a bit stinky I enjoy loading the back of my car and rejoice in the fact that I am over my nausea and can carry it to the orphanages without losing my lunch. Upon arrival at the orphanages the kids happily run to the car, each one with outstretched arms wanting their chance to carry some of the bounty.
Our garage has turned into a clothing barn as people have given supplies for me to distribute to the orphanages. So, not only have I been able to deliver food but presents, school supplies, shoes and clothing. As always, I love getting to play Santa. At six months pregnant with my big belly I am even starting to look more like him.
We were amazed and blessed over the month of December as donations came in to help HOREC become a
HOREC security wall
Working to make HOREC a safer place. safer place. Over $8,000 came from generous donors which is enabling us to put up a security wall and razor wire around the dorms and assist in counseling for the children. Due to a lot of prayer and love showered on the kids they are doing really well considering the circumstances.
We were able to provide some fun things for their Christmas as donations came in specifically to help the kids have some cheerful presents to open. We gave them a t.v., DVD player, Christian music and Christian film videos, books to start a library and a “fun day” where they loaded in two vans and got to go out for the day which included eating out. If you ask what the kids favorite food is a majority reply, “FRENCH FRIES” with great zeal. They usually get French fries just couple times a year when they go on a fun day. One would never imagine finding so much joy in seeing greasy fingers and greasy smiles.
Our sponsored girls began a new year of school. They are hoping to begin and end the academic year strong, taking them one step closer to adulthood and dreams that they are
able to have because they are receiving an education.
Spring Valley School built two more classrooms and began a “baby class” where they take toddlers that are at high risk and provide them a safe environment. This allows the little ones to have a safe haven for eight hours against abuse, neglect and hunger. They hope to begin construction on a new dorm that would act as offices and living facilities for the “at risk” teenage girls. I hope that ITHM can play a part in assisting with this building so these young girls can be safe from the terrors that often await them at home.
Johnny and I are beginning to plan for our new baby boy. Last month our boy began to use me as his own personal gym….I think he is training for the Olympics inside the womb.
Currently I am beginning to plan for our summer teams that will come and play a part in the ongoing work that is being done here in Kenya.
We are so thankful for those who joined with us last year and we are so excited about seeing the fruit of our labors (in the garden,
in our home and in our work) this year. We hope that more people will also come on board and begin supporting these great projects.
I always get thrilled when I see needs met. On Wednesday I was at Spring Valley School and Stanley, the director, was telling me that they have 20 students that graduated from the eight grade and wanted desperately to go to high school. He told me they needed approximately $3,080 to get the 20 kids through the year. By Thursday one of our donors told us they would pay half the amount which will enable the kids to get enrolled and cover their first term and part of their second term. The money was delivered today and the kids get to start ninth grade in a few weeks. They are Extremely Happy that they get to continue in their education!
I can't say enough to thank all those who give and who pray as you help make all these projects run more efficiently. Numerous children are receiving aid in so many forms which is changing their lives for the better.
If you would like to donate to any of the projects please
make a tax deductible check out to:
