dear friends and family,
how are you all... life here been well... with the ghanan way of
living here: wake up early and sleep early... had make me a early
riser too!!!
over the last few day... we been around the city accra and all kind of
markets, big or small!!! the market here is so lively and energetic.
there are always noise, music and laughter. i love the market. there
are so many people in one small place trying to sell and buy goods,
interaction here is just so amazing and diverse. i can see so many
different personality in such a short period of time.
Life here in Ghana continue to be amazing and eye opening. Class just
start for me last week. all the classes are so interesting. My class
are, African literature, African people’s and culture, African
politics and development, African religion, family and human services,
African language-Twi, and African drumming and Dancing.
My favorite class so far is the African politics and development
class, it is just so fascinating to know how a country from across the
world functions and how it all related to the rest of the world as its
history shown. It is so interesting to see that how the West had
interacted with Africa throughout the history since they first met. In
this class, one is able to see in a different perspective and views of
point on Africa’s poverty and corruption.
My second favorite class is the African literature class. I love how
literature at the time of history come to us many years later to tells
us stories of then and there. I love how one can truly see history of
a continent in the writer’s eyes, views and opinions in that time of
history. it just seem so much more honest and alive.
Dancing and drumming class surly are great. in the last dancing
class, we practiced this one single dance move that look very much
like a stylized chicken dance for like 1 hours so. it was surely one
of the biggest workout in my time here.
i been playing a bit street soccer outside of my dorm... and meeting
some new friends. it was nice to make new friends through sport. those
Ghanaian and Nigerian soccer play can play so long, i was so dead
tired at the end.
one of my favorite place here in Ghana is this small night market
outside of my dorm. they serve great local Ghanaian food but that is
not the main reason why i like it. I love the music and noises in that
little night market. It is surely a lively place in the evening and
late at night. it is always a great time when i am there, meeting new
people and talk about interesting things... it is surely a great place
to interact with the local Ghanaian, adult or students.
my eyes surely had filled with many natural and humanity wonders in
the time i am here. i had gone to the water fall, climb a “mountain”,
write my journal with the salty breeze of the ocean on my face, make
my way through a overcrowded market place, talked to a Liberia refugee
over lunch, held a Ghanian guy friends hand walking on the main road
of the campus (here in Ghana, guys friends hold hand quite a bit, it
is their way of showing friendship), meet a local tradition chief in
the area, been to a plantation of the colonization era, put in wonder
by a traditional healing church, overwhelmed by the over aggressive
vender on the street, been in a overheated, overcrowded Tro-Tro (a
mini bus)... there surely many that i had seen and i am filled with
excitement and thanks for the more that i am going to see and
experience.
i am also planning to be a volunteer at this department, where their
goal is to connect the international students to the rest of Ghana,
the university and the Ghanaian. so far, i been given them ideas and
the perspective of a exchange student. it is the first year of the
organization, so i don’t really know what is my job yet... but i can’t
wait to help and meet new people.
we are going to cape coast next week... where one of the major
slavery trading post is. it surely will be a unforgettable trip.
this trip been a blessing, and thanks for all your support and prayer!!!
wish you all a great day
Patrick
