Today was... Awesome. Where to start... I got up around 430am and went with brook, one of the other girls here, for a run. We jogged down to the coast and did sit ups in the grass by the beach... Awesome way to start your day. My endurance is complete crap right now because of my lack of nutritional intake but it still felt good to get my heart pumping a bit. After that we came back and had crepes for breakfast, by far my FAVORITE thing in Ghana. Awesome. I'm also addicted to this chocolate drink you add to boiled water to make hot cocoa- it's Called milo and I got to have some if that for breakfast... Good start to the day. Clinic in the morning was pretty standard... Lots of malaria and typhoid ... read more

APPRECIATION I wish to express my profound out most gratitude to the the almighty God for his protection and mercy and abundant grace on us up-to date. I therefore give thanks to the Adjoa Foundation for given this opportunity of Invitation to the Netherlands. I do appreciate the effort for me so far. Start from the first day of meeting in Ghana with the sisters of Ahotokurom, and other country men. The trust that you had for me of giving the opportunity to handle the projects in Ghana. I also do appreciate for helping the ... read more

On Tuesday, because I still didn’t have my internship since they had a week of Easter Holiday, I just went onto campus early to try to type up my last blog post…which I failed to do until a week after. But I got to campus to not only find out that I didn’t really have access to internet but that the University Professors just went on strike…meaning that I didn’t even have dance class that evening. Instead I began typing up some documents for my Dance Professor because I can type a lot…faster than a lot faster than the professors and students in the dance department. So I was still put to work and my only thing that I could say once I finished was to have my work count towards my grade in anyway, like ... read more

Since our return from the US last April I feel like my life is experiencing a Polar Shift. It is bitter/sweet to think that this particular season of my life is passing. For the past 6yrs the Child of Excellence students, families and village have consumed 80% of my time, thoughts & energy. Time and energy very well spent. Now with a full staff of teachers, I’ve worked myself out of a classroom and a job. Though I am very welcome, I rarely make the 1hr drive to even pay a visit. Staff, students and I have a multitude of fine memories. Amazing volunteers have left their footprints on our lives and those of the students. Trials, challenges and new experiences stretched and reshaped volunteers, students and myself in ways we couldn’t have dreamed. When I ... read more

Words can’t describe day three in Ghana. Others that had made this pilgrimage in the first two days in country came back looking shell-shocked so we all knew what was coming. Unlike the rest of our car rides, this one is virtually silent. We arrive at the first of two stops: Cape Coast Castle. A large, white washed complex accented with black shutters on the windows and black cannons standing guard for a threat long forgotten. There is an eerie silence to this place despite the bustling fishing community outside its doors. Our guide takes us first to the Male Dungeon, a complex of 5 rooms in near darkness. He leads us into the first chamber, closes the door behind us and turns out the modern light that has been added for the convenience and comfort ... read more

Hey all, Since I last updated my blog I have done a bit more travelling (down south this time) and so have a few new things to fill you in on. As you can see from the location, me and Louise went down to Cape Coast (a prime tourist spot, with no other tourists) and met up with the other 2 Brits who came at the same time as us, Rus and Christa. I think it is fair to say that I didn't hugely like it; I don't quite see why it is considered a tourist spot. It's dirty and grimy with very little to it (apart from a castle and a few dirty beaches) and the entire time you are just being constantly hassled, 'Oburoni, Oburoni where are you going?' 'Oburoni, Oburoni come and look ... read more

Well let me give a quick update from the last few weeks. The entries from here on out may be a little sparse due to the fact that in the new town where I am staying, the electricity is usually out from around 6 am to 8 pm. Not too convenient. I will start with last weekend. This past weekend I went back into Accra to visit my friends there, to go to a Projects Abroad event at an orphanage, and to see the Independence day festivities. It was nice to see all the volunteers from back in Accra as it's abit quieter and more mellow with just 6 volunteers, and possibly the only 6 obrunis in the whole town. On Sunday for Independence day we got up quite early thinking that it would be very ... read more
