Our horse ride
We got a 'sleep in' Expat style today – 7am wake up call! But we were asleep by 10.30pm last night so had a good solid sleep. We got up, changed and headed down to breakie which was good. We both had fruit, croissant and an omelette so filled up nicely. We then headed off the boat and we had docked overnight in Edfu. The first thing we noticed – it stunk like horse crap! And sure enough there were horse and carriages everywhere. We got on one in groups of 4 and they took us on a 'city tour' of Edfu and we got told a total of "here is the hospital, here is the school, here is the market." We were hoping to god we didnt get sick in Edfu as the hospital looked horrible and you would most likely come out with more diseases that what you went in with.

We arrived at Edfu Temple after about 15mins and had to run through the usual beginning of any temple - a run of little souvineer shops/very seedy egyptian men hounding us in all directions. Ben made friends with a man called Akmhed, unintentionally and it was def a one way friendship. He gave him his card and wanted us to go and visit his hop afterwards. And sure enough he found us inside the temple and attempted to drag us into his shop! We were successful however, in getting away!

To be honest, this temple was 4 days ago and I cant really remember many Egyptian stories about it! And Ben is regurgitating some facts to me but personally I dont think they're blog worthy! IT WAS the only temple I got to wear my new dress at before it got swiped out of my pack! 😞

It was the first we had seen the god of the sky that had been talked about on the roof of this temple. It was quite worn but you could still see some blue colour which was incredible from such a long time ago! this temple was built for the falcon headed god - Horace??! They all merge together after 100 stories! So, there was stone falcons at the entrance and throughout the temple. Hyroglyphics just lined the walls one on top of each other! It was just incredible! Not many of the temples we have been to had much colour left but there were many places in this temple which still held the colour Mainly blue and red. As we came out for some reason there was a mini sphinx out the front so naturally we got another kissing pic! 😊

We eventually managed to escape from Akmhed and find our horse to take us back to the boat. It was nice to climb back on board and know that we had the whole day (it was 10am) to just chill out on the boat! And chill out we did, got our togs on, sunscreened up and lay on our beach chairs by the pool in extreme winds to the point where the crew had to start stacking the chairs as they were flying all over the show! After a bit if sun and some more buffet lunch we retreated to our room for a 2 hour siesta and woke up just in time for tea, coffee and cake! 😊 We then got told that we were approaching a dam that we had to go through so we all ventured outside to watch us going through the lock. It was actually really interesting as we had

to drop about 12m to get through the lock. Never free from the hagglers they were lined up to both sides of the ship and the ship behind us throwing towel up onto the ship and asking us to throw money down! There was a lot of yelling and it was hilarious to watch the chines on our ship bargaining with them! They lost a few towels in the Nile and one guy almost paid and had no towel till the lil egyptian kid sprinted under the bridge and managed to toss it back up on board! Very funny to watch! The blue towel was actually really cool and we would have loved it if we were going straight back home but way too big to carry round for 3 months!

After the dam excitement we had another few hours to chill out and watch the sun go down. It started getting a wee bit cooler so we went down and changed and met the rest of the group for dinner and then headed off the boat to an irish pub for a few drinks and some pool. We met up with Larissa and Greg who had spent a

night on the Feluccia and were interested to hear about their night, They had a boat to themselves and really enjoyed it which was good to hear! We were all most excited about the fact that the pub had wifi so we all logged in and sat being anti social for an hour or so till a few blogs were uploaded and all of our pics of the day!

We had a lovely day today and it was so nice to just chill out for the most of it! Busy busy day tomorrow in Luxor before heading to Hurghada!
