Our final days in Luxor are spent exploring the Temple of Hatshepsut. The temple as mentioned in the previous entry is part of the Deir el Bahri or the Northern Monastery. Hatshepsut is the most important female pharaoh and also one of the most successful. During her reign she legitimized her powerful position by getting painted in the pharaoh’s kilt and beard, ie depicted as a man. She was a productive builder, commissioning many projects in Upper and Lower Egypt.

The temple we saw today was dedicated to her.
