There must be something in the water in Dahab. Something that makes your tongue tingle and dance, that makes your mouth curl into a constant smile, something that makes you want to forget everything else in the world and just coolly high-five every living creature within a 5-meter radius. It's funny though, I can't say that it was so much of a spectacular place descriptively; I've been to nicer beaches, dove better sites, seen better sunsets - and there are no real attractions. But perhaps if you were to look up "ambience" in Websters, it would be defined in one word: Dahab. Dahab reminds me of Kuta in Bali. Predominantly backpacker clientele, banana pancakes, totally chilled out on the waterfront. It's also one of those places where locals pull like mad with the foreign girls with ... read more

After a full day crossing the border from Jordan we finally made it into Egypt. Our first stop was 4 days in the ocean side resort town of Dahab. Dahab is on the Sinai penninsula which a very interesting area. the entire penninsula was annexed from Egypt by Israel in 1967 and handed back in 1982. The 1982 agreement was brokered by the Americans and as a result the entire Sinai region is under very tight security, this is also a result of a bombing that occured in 2005. The area is virtually off limits to Egyptians and they are not allowed to enter unless they have direct business or they live in the area. The main attraction for tourists into the area is the reef which creates ample amounts of snorkeling and diving opportunities. The ... read more

Open Water Dive Course, Dahab EasyJet - London Gatwick to Sharm El Sheikh. 13:55 - 21:10. £209.46 Accommodation 7 nights and dive course - Penguin Divers - £389.54 Arrived in Sharm el Sheik on Tuesday 13th 9.15pm, after waiting for quite a while for our luggage to turn up we found our driver with a cute little 'Emily' sign and headed off to Dahab. Another English guy, Dom was also staying at Penguin Divers and came in the taxi with us. The landscape is amazing, so dry and barren with huge sandy mountains on all sides. Then you get to Dahab and it is this amazing little town all built around the water front with mountains of big pillows, rugs and palm trees swaying in the wind. Everyone is relaxed and super friendly, sitting around reading, ... read more

there are 50 photos on this one! make sure you scroll and click next, there are three pages to look at !! Dahab, we're sad to leave you but the time has come. We had some good times and horrible times but they were memorable just the same. We will miss you and all the people that are a couple degrees off. Kims dive instructor summed up dahab with this line "the worlds self-check in mental institution" and we say this with the best of intentions, the people were interesting and fun. We will miss the wind, the begging one eyed diseased cats, the relentlessly pushy taxi drivers, the never ending sunshine and the late nights. But as modest mouse said, "the good times are killing me," so we will move on and do some more ... read more

I got the pictures to upload!! April 24 "Hey Frances can you turn the air conditioning back on?" is what I woke up to this morning. Apparently in her half awake state Kathleen forgot that our hotel manager told us that there was going to be a power outage for 2 hours in the morning...hence no air conditioning. After reminding her of that fact I drifted back off to sleep and all three of us awoke later at about 12:30pm. We had all decided that today would be a sleeping in day but we didn't think we would sleep in that long...oops. After getting up and getting dressed we headed to the beach and had a total lazy day. It was great! The red sea is beautiful and we could see Saudi Arabia just across the ... read more

April 22, 2008 Ok so I don’t have internet access and I’m a bit tipsy so I don’t exactly remember where I left off… Anyways, we are now in Luxor. We took a train for about 3 hours from Aswan to Luxor and once again the first thing we did when we arrived was drop our bags at our hostel and enjoy the air conditioning. It is HOT here!! Today it was 106 degrees and it’s supposed to be more of the same tomorrow. Apparently we’d been luckily the past few days and what we thought was hot, really wasn’t. After checking in we headed out. Kim and I went to Luxor Temple to see the ruins and Kathleen went to Mc Donalds (where they have complimentary WiFi AND air conditioning) to work on a paper ... read more

14-4-08 We arrived in Dahab at 3:30am, to the bus station. We then realised that there was no phone there and only one taxi. In Dahab the taxis are all Toyota Hiluxes, so we had no choice but to jump in the cab, while all the locals piled in the tray. We were at our hotel in no time and then the driver tried to rip us off. There was no way he was going to get away with that. We were now fairly experienced on how much you should pay. We were very impressed on arrival of the entry to our hotel. Very classy! It was then time for some much needed sleep. We were up at 9 the next morning. Yes, an actual sleep in for us! This day we signed up for Open ... read more

Ahh, Dahab, oasis of chill and happiness and western food. Two nights in Dahab did a lot to ease our travel weary souls. We stayed in a backpackers place right by the beach, and basically spent a day and a half relaxing, tourist shopping and remembering what hot showers and real beds felt like. I did a bit of tourist shopping, just because my backpack isn't full enough already, and visited Omar the sheesha master. He's very passionate about the art of sheesha, and when buying one you have to go through the full demonstration of how to assemble it properly, use it correctly and keep it clean... It took an hour to buy a sheesha for Dave, as in addition to the full demonstration, we even had to smoke from it to make sure it ... read more
