V quick Egypt update, just to let you know what we've been up to (more exciting stories soon, I promise)
We arrived in Cairo after much wine and Harry Potter goodness. Not much of this night is remembered.
Next day we were taken on a tour of the pyramids and Mr. Sphinx. We both noted how the pyramids were made of blocks (I assumed them to be smooth) and not sandy (what? they look that way in the pictures. And Egypt is full of sand. Surely this makes sense).
After some confusion/annoyance/general ripping off by our travel company, we caught an overnight train to Aswan. We wandered the markets, enjoyed dinner by the nile and prepared ourselves for a 3am wake up call to go to Abu Simbel.
The temple of Ramses II in Abu Simbel took up most of the next day - I think it was a 3 hour drive each way. Just a tip to all. Driving in Egypt is not cool. I'm very glad that all the speedos I've looked at are broken, so I can't tell just how fast we are going. Too fast is always the answer.
After a strenous morning exploring the 2 temples,
we boarded a felucca for a 2 night cruise. This was very cool. Sunrise and sunset on the nile. Beers in the nile. Camel markets. Bedouin food. A pot smoking felucca captain of the loveboat. One of my highlights so far. The felucca dropped us at Kom Ombo to visit a temple. Then we drove to Edfu for another temple (I was pissed off and just wanted food. Stupid temples. Stupid lack of food). Finally we reached our desitination of Luxor.
Luxor was a bit less cool than Aswan (good english cat!). But we did a night tour of the Luxor temple, which was pretty special. The next morning was another early one, off to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings etc. Am so getting a tomb there when I die. The afternoon was at Kardak temple (dont think I spelt that right) which was amazing, the best temple we saw by far.
Next was my most favouritest favourite part. A 18 hour bus ride to Dahab. It hurt. The supersized Maccas we had for dinner hurt. It was generally painful.
So we've been in Dahab relaxing for 5 days now. Ill write about that another time
(I really love Dahab, its so relaxed.) but for now I just want to tell you all that the burning bush is not really burning. I saw it with my own eyes. Very upsetting.
