It started with the ride from the Vicfalls to the boarder!! We had a nice cab-driver who stopped for us when we saw our first big wildlife! an Giraffe and some Elephants!! The only way for us was to book a tour so we were picked up at the boarder, driven to the riverside and our boat was waiting for us. A bit more than 2 hours on the boat brought us back from animalplanet to the nice resort!! We had seen plenty of wildlife, Elephants, Hippo's to many impala's, Buffalo's Crocodiles and lots of birds!!! The game drive afterwards showed us even more!! Great place Chobe...wanted to stay and relax a bit...but the campgrounds was fully booked the next day.. Got up at 04:30....to make it in time to the only local bus from Kasane ... read more

Our last full day in Swakopmund was spent on the township tour. We visited a witch doctor, an artist, the chief of the local tribe, a local pub, ate traditional food including worms (which weren't too bad!) and some children performed a traditional dance for us. That evening we went to a really nice restaurant on the beach. The next morning we began our drive up to Etosha National park. On the way we stopped at a seal colony where there were literally thousands of seals as far as the eye could see. They live at the seal colony all year around and visitors can get right up close to them. The place regrettably stank of seals but it was awesome to just be among so many of them. We spent most of the day driving, ... read more

Chilly Start Up at 5am for the game drive, another wonderful early start. As we emerged from the tent, an elephant trumpeted loudly, sounding really close by. Apparently, our guide had to chase him off the campsite because the staff had left the gate open - scary stuff! Definitely prefer the friendly mongoose family that were running riot around the camp. We all piled onto the open Land Cruiser, realising we had left all our warm gear on the truck. On the journey we dodged antelope lurking in the dark road and a herd of big buffalo munching away on the roadside. The Game Drive Entered the National Park at sunrise and immediately drove by a hyena, lolloping off into the bush, as we listened to its eerie laughter. We journeyed along the Chobe riverbank ... read more

Dodging the constant barrage of goats, cows, donkeys, dogs and people on the road was a gentle reminder that we had arrived within the boarders of Botswana. A couple of days of relaxed riding brought us to Maun, a good base for exploring the Okavango Delta, set in the southern region of this 'World wonder'. Trips into the delta on a makoro (dug out canoe) turned out to be ridiculously expensive for our budget, so foot-power was the name of the game on our exploration missions in and around the local area. It's always great to get off the beaten track, which usually involves walking anyway. One such exploration brought us to a local football (soccer) match. Easy to find as you could hear the music and see the rising dust off the pitch in ... read more

Day trip to Chobe Africa » Botswana » Chobe National Park By BJJune 14th 2007Brian Johnson On Tuesday we headed over the border to Botswana on an organised tour to visit the Chobe where elephants are supposedly in the greatest number than any other part of Africa. After an hour's drive and border formalities we started a cruise down the Chobe River. The area is rich in bird life but it was the big animals we came to see. No sign of elephants but we meandered gently past many hippo's and croc's in the water, and saw plently of other wildlife on the shore. It was on our way back that we caught our 1st elephant sighting.....one of many. After lunch we set off on a dr... read more

Spent the last 3 days (7th to 9th) in the delta.. had so much anticipation to go into the delta.. especially after watching a documentary on lions eating elephants in the okavango delta on somebody's ipod.. well.. i think if you want a more exciting safari.. don't do it by mokoro (dug-out canoes).. probably fly into the inner delta and do some game drives from there.. The mokoro CRUISE started on 7th.. we took a transfer truck from Camp Sitatunga.. after an hour's drive, we arrive at the delta where numerous mokoros await our arrival to take us into the delta.. the mokoros are basically poled along the shallow depth of the delta.. max 2 passengers.. so you and another person sit in the narrow mokoro.. and your poler stands behind to pole the canoe.. the ... read more

Crossed the border from Zimbabwe to Botswana 2 days ago.. and did a short game driver in the Chobe National Park yesterday morning.. read and slept on me hammock the whole of yesterday afternoon... and travelled from Kasane to Maun for the most part of the day today.. Will be going for a 3 day safari into the Okavango Delta tomorrow.. there will be a couple of safari walks.. and we will be venturing into the deltas on mekoro (dug-out canoes).. bush camping, and have to bring our own food and tents.. looking forward to the safari.. and hopefully the delta is as good as they say.. Maun is a pretty developed place.. rapidly growing due to tourism around the delta region.. we are entering the dry season now.. so hopefully the animals are thirsty enough ... read more

northeast Botswana I'm sure I've been this dusty before, but I don't really remember when. Last year's rainy season never arrived, and northeastern Botswana is in the grips of a 30 year drought. The wetland area is shrunk, and low water levels severely limit traditional poling areas, so we never got to this particular form of travel. The thin veneer of grass and soil holding the underlying sand is nearly gone in places. Still, the countryside is beautiful, and our seven day backcountry trip is one of the highlights of our travels. Animals are only somewhat restricted from their historic ranges, as the natural areas are extensive and even cross international boundaries. We started out in Maun and traveled through Moreme Park to Chobe Park and Kasane, and finished with a boat trip along the Chobe ... read more

23.05.07 The great adventure started cold and wet. Last minute on Friday evening the landrover was finally repaired. Packing in the rain on Saturday and starting the next morning in th rain was only the beginning. The next three days the coldfront was on our heels and we could not escape the cold even as far as Ganzi in Botswana, where we are now. Khalagadi was as ever a wondergful experience and a great entry to Botswana. We saw our first Cheeta hunting in the wild. On the open plain we watched this most elegant cat in good view. We also saw, very brief though two honeybadgers and of course bucks of all sorts and sizes. The lions, as usual eluded us, they seem to only show up when our friends visit the same area ;o( ... read more

Hi Friends, Sorry for the space between my blogs, but though there has been lots going on, sometimes it's just difficult to come up with ways of describing things. So, for the last month, you could say we have reached phase two of our adventure. Phase one, or the settling phase, took quite a while. Getting everything organized, the house, the car, the utilities marched along at African time. Phase two we will call the getting comfortable stage. Anj is in full swing at her work as her last blog showed. She has completed a marketing plan for the charger and presented her findings to the board. Now she is busy setting up plans and appointments to sell the product worldwide. A trip to Kenya is in the works for July and she may even be ... read more
