Before I start I must apologise about the absence of pictures, I'm having slight technical issues with uploading them at current.
Anyways on a lighter note, we had a wild time in Vang Vieng. It was basically what we expected, its Laos version of Malaga, a type of party destination. Our time in Vang Vieng was brief due to not being too much to do. But we did do the obvious and had a day of tubing. Thinking back to it, its pretty dangerous, being the mixture of river, drinking, and "other" substances, and then to make it worse, zip lines and swings!! BUT it is something you need to do after so long being a sensible traveller, I am sure it was all covered in our insurance.......either way we survived. It was an early start and we was by the river, drink in hand at 10am. The weather was scorching so the cold river on you doesnt seem to be so bad after all, its only like a 2-5min float between each bar along the river, and you dont have much of a choise which ones you go in as the fish you in and tempt you with free whiskey and "substances". The further you go down the harder it seems to exit the floating device as we soon found by about the forth bar. At most bars there would be either a swing, zip line, or an excuse for a slide. I obviously being the brave one enjoyed all of them but some of us just enjoyed the sun. We had heard stories from people that people have died/broken bones from these unsafe thrill riders but me and mark live to see another day and another shot of mushoom whiskey??? There was a point where I was stroking two huge pigs at which point Kim thought it would be an idea to put the banana leaf down as apparently there was no pigs??? At about 430 we decided it was a good time to float back to Vang Vieng as it was a good hours float and if your late its a 20k fine. After a slight nap we were delving into another bucket at the cleverly named Bucket Bar...at 10k a buket you cant say no!
The following day was pretty much a write off, but it can easily be done here as EVERY bar and restaurant instead of having tables and chairs they have beds which are all facing TV!!! And to improve this they play easy watching TV ALL day and night, the choice is either Friends or Family Guy. So I can safely say I did not move for a good 8hrs as I endulged in 2series of family guy.
Thats is pretty much all we did and now we are moving on to our next destination of Laos which is the capital, Vientuiane.
I will hopefully sort our pictures soon, so all of the above should make some slight sense, especially the actual title...
P.S WELL DONE NAN ON THE EMAIL!!!
