Happy 10th anniversary Travel Blog Ode to Travel Bloggers
Let us start by acknowledging a few basic principles we hold dear:
We love our country and we also consider ourselves to be citizens of the world.
Happy Tenth Anniversary to Travel Blog!!
Our thanks for Ali Watters, the owner and creator of Travel Blog for this amazing travel community. Without you, this would not have been possible.
In 2007 we were living and working in Seattle, Washington. We had some amazing friends in town but we were getting itchy feet….which happens to us from time to time, and we wanted to take to the open road. Our jobs were not as fulfilling as we wanted them to be and we had lived in Seattle for 7 years. That was the longest MJ had lived any placed since 1989. When Dave met Merry Jo, he understood her wanderlust and embraced her need to stay on the move. That was one of the attractions……. to experience new places and people. This principle has never wavered.
Unknown to our employer and our friends, the idea to quit our jobs and travel around the world was in the planning. One day one of the
A Glimpse
of the Golden Gate physicians at work showed MJ a blog written by his good friends named Cori and Emmanuel. (many thanks, Kyle) They were currently traveling around the world with their two children and writing amazing blogs. Yes, they were travel blog members. Each morning Merry would log onto the computer in hopes of having a new blog from Cori and Emmanuel. The writing and photos were fantastic. These blogs pushed us over the edge in making our decision to travel…. we needed to create a new reality. If you go to Cori and Emmanuel’s blog, you will find a great adventure that help to put us on the road. They have moved from Seattle to Paris and still use travel blog from time to time.
When we joined travel blog in 2007 we used it to post our blogs keeping our friends and family in touch with our travels. Once we returned from our around the world trip we realized travel blog was extremely useful when planning our next trip. We could gain up to date information and ideas for travel that was current. We don’t care which guide you embrace –the Lonely Planet, Fodor’s, Frommers, Rick Steves, the Rough Guides
Acapulco, Mexico
2000-- we have not blogged about this trip yet. or any other –they are a bit out of date by the time you buy them. Travel blog is current. Over the past couple of years we have become fairly active in the forums answering and asking questions. We have made many friends around the world and now embrace the community that is travel blog.
We live in San Francisco, California and look forward to meeting Ali Watters. This is an awesome opportunity to meet the man behind a great website. We hope that we have this chance soon when he moves to the San Francisco area.
Travel blog has pulled together a group of like-minded individuals who enjoy exploring cultures around the world.
This week we were unable to make it to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to celebrate Travel Blogs 10
th anniversary, so we celebrated in San Francisco at the House of NanKing with Brendan Vermillion, a fellow travel blogger, who has just been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Brendan and everyone else who has joined the Hall of Fame this week!! We were happy to celebrate in the U.S. while others were celebrating in Malaysia.
Let us know if you are visiting
or live in the SF area....we would love to meet you.
We’ve included a few random photos from our trip around the world and trips since our return.
Each morning before we go to work we read a couple of blogs so please keep blogging! All of you out there who blog are the reason why we have such a keen interest in travel. You continually show us all the reasons why we strive to visit the big blue marble in all its beauty. Keep on telling us what you see and why, this is the essence of Travelblog!!!
