This morning we woke from a 10 hour sleep refreshed and ready for another day. After enjoying a lovely breakfast that had been prepared by the Inn keeper, (she lost money on John), we headed out to visit the Chateau of Langeais, first built in 1465 by the King of France, Louise XI. It is the centerpiece of the town and is known to be one of the most imposing looking fortresses of the Middle Ages. It was, however, built mostly for show. The chateau towers over the little town, and has a moat, drawbridge and turrets. It has been said to have been the inspiration for Cinderella’s castle. We entered through the drawbridge and explored three stories of rooms which include all of the period furnishing. After strolling through the gardens, we made the perfunctory ... read more

OMG where do I begin. The flight itself was pretty uneventful. They came around with dinner after about 3 hours. My chicken was okay, but Ray;s pasta was inedible. Lucklly they gave him two bloody mary;s, so that calmed him down. We did catch a little sleep, but not a heck of a lot, We started our day with coffee and something that was called a breakfast calzone. One look at it and it turned my stomach, but Ray being the food hound that he is decided to try it. He could barely get the small bite that he took down, so he too decided on just coffee for Breakfast. After a smooth landing the captain announced that we would not be getting a gate and would be transported by bus to the terminal. They parked ... read more

After a busy morning of last minute chores we left the lake and headed down to Salem, NH to pick up our Euros. All was uneventful until be reached the airport. While going through security Diane was pulled over and asked to take her shoes off so that they could be put through the x ray machine. Evidentially she looked like a possible shoe bomber. We then proceeded to our gate which felt like four miles away. We then realized that there were no places to eat in this section of the new terminal. After much walking back and forth we decided to order sandwiches which they delivered. $50.00 for two sandwiches seemed a little excessive, but when you’re hungry, your hungry. After devouring our sandwiches we headed to the restrooms. As I was hovering over ... read more

Well, this is the closing blog from our trip to Nova Scotia. We left our campsite in New Brunswick Thursday morning to a beautiful day. We initially thought about staying the night near Bangor, ME, where we camped on our way to Nova Scotia 10 days ago, but after realizing it was only less than 2 hours away, we decided to just keep going and stay further south. Crossing the border, we stopped at US Customs and a very pleasant woman checked out our paperwork and asked if we had any fruits or vegetables. Told her that we had eaten most everything we d bought, but she wanted to come aboard and check. Looking in the fridge, she spotted the egg carton with two eggs left. She said that was not allowed and took them. I ... read more

Okay so maybe one more blog. As we were driving along this morning I started thinking about our trip and some of our observations about Canada, so I thought I would list them. *The Lupine grow like crazy here. They are not only along all the roadways, they are in the woods and peoples yards, very beautiful. *Campgrounds are mostly filled with seasonal campers with only a limited number of spots for transients like us. *The typography and scenery are very much like New England *Gas is the same price at every gas station in a particular area; must be government controlled *There are some asshole drivers, but certainly not as many as we have at home. *Lobsters and oyster have not been as popular in restaurants as we thought they would be. *People here are ... read more

Well, we are on our way back home. Today was an uneventful day. After a relaxing morning, we left Linwood Campground around 10:00, and arrived at Loch Lomond RV Park in Amherst, Nova Scotia around 1:00. We had stayed here at the beginning of our journey around Nova Scotia and enjoyed it so much we decided to come back. Not much to say about today, no highlights or pictures to share with you. After a long day on the road yesterday driving the Cabot Trail, it felt good to spend the afternoon going for a short walk and relaxing in the sun. Our plans now are to spend tomorrow night near the US border, the following night near Bangor, Maine, and then home. So folks, not sure how much more will be posted. We hope you ... read more

Day 8 - Today was an amazing day! We left the campground in the "Bug" around 10:00 in a very thick fog. I was feeling very disappointed that our drive to and around the Cabot Trail was going to be a bust. After driving for about an hour towards the coast, the sun started to break through, the fog burned off, and it turned into a beautiful day. Before long the amazing scenery was before us. The coast line is lined with mountains and cliffs with different shades of blue, green and bro,wn. Once in the National Park, we entered the "Highlands" and the scenery got even better. The Cabot trail is named after an Italian explorer named John Cabot. He sailed under the British flag, sponsored by King Henry VII, to find lands west of ... read more

Day 7 First of all Happy Father's Day to all of you dad's out there. Last night was filled with lightning, thunder and heavy rain. I just love the sound of the rain hitting the roof of the RV, it reminds me of my younger years when we stayed at our farm during the summer months. By morning the rain had slowed down considerably and we decided to have a leisurely start to the day. Of course, being it was Father's Day I treated Ray by making one of his favorite breakfasts, eggs and hash. We hit the road around 10, and by then the rain was just a drizzle. The drive was quite uneventful, I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before, but the roads here, except for the major cities are quite uncrowded. ... read more

Day 6 - We hit the road again and on our way to Mahone Bay with the morning draped in a deep fog. We had decided to drive to Hubbards where there was a nice campground that had a restaurant, and was featuring a lobster dinner....yum! As we passed through the Shelburne area both sides of the road were charred from the recent wild fire. It was so interesting to see areas completely burned, and a house in it's midst untouched. I imagine the firefighters worked very hard for that to happen. Unfortunately, there were many homes that were lost to the fire, and in fact, the highway we were traveling on was just opened after being closed for some time. Our understanding is the fire is still ongoing, but under control. We arrived at the ... read more
